The origin of Mother's Day
Mother's Day is traditionally celebrated on every second Sunday in May. Originally, the festival was celebrated by the Greeks in honor of the mother of Zeus. As we know Mother's Day today, it was shaped by the English and US women's movement founded in 1865 with the name Mothers Friendships Day. Since 1950, we have also been celebrating Mother's Day in Germany. Even though Mother's Day is celebrated differently from country to country, the holiday is considered an expression of gratitude and family awareness. Unusual specialities, fine chocolates and sugar-coated marzipan hearts are simply part of Mother's Day. We wish all mothers, grandmothers, parents and families a happy holiday!
